The champions raced to a two goal lead in little over two minutes thanks to goals to Briar McNamara and Emily Oosterhof but were overhauled by halftime as goals to Morany Chek, Mary Fraser and Chloe Knott led the Three Kings fight back.
Rovers captain Rebecca O’Neil drew the North Shore side level again but the visitors found the winner with 17 minutes remaining as Rebecca Burrows picked out the top corner from outside the area.
Three Kings will be the sole Auckland representative in this week’s semi final draw – the matches will be played on July 21 and 22 – with Hamilton, Palmerston North and Christchurch the other cities with clubs still in the hat.
Claudelands Rovers, champions in 2010, kept their hopes of a second title alive with a resounding 6-1 win over Eastern Suburbs in Auckland.
A Helen Collins hat trick led the way for the Hamiltonians while Olivia Chance netted twice and Sarah McLaughlin scored in the first half in a match Claudelands controlled from start to finish. Rebecca Tegg scored a late consolation for the home side.
Last year’s beaten finalists Coastal Spirit continued their unbeaten run in all football with a 3-0 win over Dunedin’s Roslyn Wakari in Christchurch.
Lauren Dabner and Mel Cameron gave the home side a 2-0 lead at halftime wit Hayley McKnight’s second half effort making the game safe.
In Palmerston North, a goal in each half to Emma Boyack and an early strike from Coral Seath saw Massey University book their first ever semi final berth since 2004 with a 3-0 win over Wellington’s Seatoun at Memorial Park.
